This bloody road remains a mystery
This sudden darkness fills the air

Tom Collins awoke with a start, frantically looking around at his surroundings, trying to figure out where the hell he was and what had disturbed his restless slumber. His eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness as the sterile smell of the hospital room entered his nostrils. He wrinkled his nose in disgust before yawning, sliding his stiff body out of the hard plastic chair it was reclining in.
We can’t afford to be innocent
Stand up and face the enemy

“I can’t do thos much longer,” a soft voice said from the hospital bed. “I try like hell, but this is it baby,” Angel said, squeezing Collins hand as he walked over.
Collins sighed as he looked down at the shadow that was once his happy go lucky Angel. “I know. You’ve fought the enemy long enough.” And it was true, Angel had been fighting the enemy, AIDS, for years. It was time for her to rest.
This chattered dream you cannot justify
We’re gonna scream until we’re satisfied

“You know what I was thinking about?” Angel asked after a few minutes of contemplative silence.
“What?” Angel was thinking about the weirdest shit lately.
“You really want to know?” she asked as he slid into the bed next to her.
“Of course I do. Come on, you mentioned it, now tell me,” he coaxed, happy to see her smile.
“I was thinking that champagne is just ginger ale that knows somebody. Silly isn’t it?” she asked with a small giggle.
For some godforsaken reason, it struck Collins as extremely funny and he spent the next few minutes laughing uncontrollably into the crook of Angel’s neck.
What are we running for?
When there’s no where we can run to anymore

Collins aimlessly wandered through the streets of New York City, his mind and body numb with grief. He knew this day would come, but he wasn’t ready, he wasn’t finished loving Angel yet. He was alone again. He could always run to Santa Fe with Roger, but that had been Angel’s dream, not his. Collins wasn’t the type to run from a challenge, especially this latest one: survive New York City without his Angel by his side.
